The Universal Church is celebrating the Jubilee Year 2025: Pilgrims of Hope (the 2,025th anniversary of the Incarnation of our Lord), an “event of great spiritual, ecclesial, and social significance in the life of the Church” proclaimed by Pope Francis in the papal bull Spes non confundit (“Hope does not disappoint”).

Procession and Opening Mass

Bishop Walkowiak opened the Jubilee Year in our diocese with a procession to the Cathedral of Saint Andrew and Holy Mass on Dec. 29 at 3 p.m.

The liturgy began at 3 p.m. in the Catholic Central High School gym (319 Sheldon Blvd. SE, Grand Rapids) where pilgrims gathered for prayer, the reading of the Gospel from John 14, and a reading from the Bull of Indiction of the Jubilee Year. Led by Bishop Walkowiak and clergy of the diocese, the pilgrims then processed together to the Cathedral of Saint Andrew (301 Sheldon Blvd. SE, Grand Rapids) for Mass.
