Reports to: Office manager

Job Summary:

The Director of Religious Education (DRE) is responsible for integrating the total parish religious education program into a precise educational process – one that endorses diocesan and parish policies. The DRE directs our Faith Formation programs and assists in building up the faith community in Hart and Shelby.  The DRE is responsible for assisting the Pastor with rejuvenating/reimagining the Religious Education program.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Prefer extensive knowledge of the Diocese of Grand Rapids Faith Formation program guidelines. BA in Theology/Religious Education or a related educational field and/or a certificate in ministry or theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning. Extensive experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • Bilingual able to speak Spanish and English preferred
  • All work is to be completed at the Parish Office

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities: (cont.):

  • Employees are expected to attend retreats, seminars, and small group discussions where faith is discussed when applicable.
  • Responsible to oversee Adult, High School, and Youth (K-8th Grade Formations)
  • Oversee Summer Faith based programs
  • Employees are expected to attend office staff meetings when applicable whenever possible.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.
  • DRE office work needs to be completed at the Parish Offices Tuesday thru Friday.

Physical/Visual/Mental Demands:

  • Ability to work in a multi-functioning work setting.
  • The DRE position works with all Children K-12th grade and is subject to completing a Child Safe training course provided by Virtus.
  • Must work well with Children and Adults aid in teaching the Liturgical ways of our Faith
  • Ability to work 5 hours at a computer each working day
  • Ability to work in a multi-functioning work setting

     Typical Working Conditions:

  • Position entails frequent evening and sometimes weekend work.
  • Number of hours as worked out with supervisor (not to exceed 19 hrs. per week).

Nature of Supervision Received:

Position requires the ability to be self-motivated and work independently to accomplish specific tasks assigned and meet various deadlines.

To work with the ideas of the Canonical Administrator to maintain the Liturgy and our Catholic Faith.

Judgement Exercised/Decisions Made:

Decisions are generally routine in nature with some deviations.  Recommend procedural improvements for performing duties in the most efficient and effective manner.  Must have an excellent attendance record.

DRE Position work with Volunteers to make sure that everyone in the Faith Formation program fulfills the image of the Catholic Church.
