Please join us in congratulating Bishop Hurley on the 60th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood! He was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 5, 1965, by Archbishop (later Cardinal) John F. Dearden. His first assignment was as associate pastor of St. Dorothy Parish in Warren, Michigan.
Bishop Hurley was installed as the 11th bishop of the Diocese of Grand Rapids on Aug. 4, 2005. During his almost eight-year episcopacy, some of his major accomplishments include consolidating three separate social service agencies into Catholic Charities West Michigan, establishing FAITH Grand Rapids magazine, envisioning the Cathedral Square Campus and building Cathedral Square Center.
Bishop Hurley marked his anniversary with vespers at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, followed by dinner and a reception at Cathedral Square Center on June 4. He was joined by Bishop Walkowiak, priests of the diocese, religious, former staff, and many of those with whom he worked during his episcopacy to advance the Kingdom here in West Michigan.
Thank you, Bishop Hurley for your priestly ministry! May the Lord continue to bless you and shine his grace upon you.
