Job Overview

West Catholic High School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to serve as an Assistant Coach for the Girls Varsity Basketball team. This position will support the Head Coach in coaching, mentoring, and developing student-athletes while fostering a positive and competitive environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong basketball background, effective communication skills, and a passion for teaching the game and promoting teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organizing, and leading practices, ensuring skill development, conditioning, and game preparation.
• Provide individualized instruction to players, helping them develop both basketball skills and overall athleticism.
• Help design and implement game strategies and contribute to tactical decision-making during games.
• Support the Head Coach in managing team dynamics and promoting a positive, inclusive, and supportive team culture.
• Monitor student-athletes' academic performance and provide guidance as needed to ensure eligibility and well-being.
• Assist with scouting, analyzing opponents, and game planning.
• Work collaboratively with other coaches, athletic staff, and administration to ensure the success of the team and the program.
• Represent West Catholic High School in a positive manner at all games, tournaments, and events.
• Enforce and uphold the rules and regulations of the team, school, and state association.
• Provide constructive feedback and support players' growth, both on and off the court.
• Participate in any other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.

Qualifications

• Previous coaching experience or high-level playing experience in basketball.
• Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and team dynamics.
• Ability to motivate and work effectively with high school-aged athletes.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work well with a diverse group of students, parents, and staff.
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal development.
• Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience coaching at the high school or collegiate level.
• Knowledge of the MHSAA rules and regulations for high school basketball.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.

Compensation

Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
