Throughout January, wildfires ravaged Palisades, Malibu and other areas of Los Angeles County, California. The fires caused immense damage to thousands of homes, businesses, churches and schools, and tens of thousands of people have been impacted.
Bishop Walkowiak asked for a second collection to be taken up in parishes across the diocese on the weekend of Jan. 25/26 to assist in relief and recovery efforts. You responded so generously! The Diocese of Grand Rapids collected $131,900.09 in monetary donations for Catholic Charities USA. The agency is leading the Catholic relief and recovery response.
The chief development officer of Catholic Charities USA wrote a thank you note to Bishop Walkowiak expressing his gratitude and detailing the impact your support will have, stating, “Staff and volunteers from Catholic Charities agencies have been on the ground providing assistance to those who need food, water, shelter and financial aid. As our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those whose lives have been devastated, your support will help us make a difference in getting them back on their feet.”
Please continue to pray for those impacted by these devastating fires.
